Themes for Firefox

Firefox 1.0 I do not really like the standard theme which comes with Firefox 1.0. My favourite is Qute, which is sadly not available at the moment for v1.0. So I googled for a tutorial or a FAQ about creating themes for Firefox, and found this.

Actually you simply have to look for the classic.jar Archive, unpack it and change the things you want to change (graphics, css,…). Really doesn’t sound like a big deal. And with The Anatomy of an Icon it is even simply to create a good looking User-Interface.

Let’s see what I can do to beautify Firefox. By the way, Mozilla’s Browsers have a global usage share of 7.35 per cent in November, Microsoft’s IE is the first time under 90 per cent (89) (source: Times Online - Microsoft feels Firefox browser heat).

Snow Well, I’m back from the Red Cross course and what happens? It’s snowing outside (and it’s cold, of course). Never mind, I have some thoughts about it for you.

  • First of all, I now do understand why “Zivildiener” are called lazy sometimes. Met some quite unmotivated (and stupid) people there.
  • I don’t like “Wiener Schnitzel” anymore.
  • First Aid ist quite interesting and useful.
  • You are not allowed to do anything as a Zivildiener. Not only anything, just nothing.
  • Don’t trust the train conductors of the ÖBB, their trains are always late. Always!
  • Don’t rely on the ÖBB if you have an urgent date.
  • Take care of the winds in Vienna.

I think that’s everything of experience of life that I’ve gained through those four days. Put that in your pipe and smoke it (never used that phrase before in English, sounds pretty funny for an Austrian).

I’ve stumbled over a very interesting post from 43 Folders, More Moleskine Hacks. So I’ve ordered one of these fabolous notebooks via Amazon, see what will happen to my genious mind ;-). No, I think it’s quite a good idea to sort your thoughts with a good notebook (and hey, Hemingway and other artists used it before, so it can’t be that bad). Looking forward to organize my ideas and use the time between my hometown and my girlfriend’s place in a sensible way.

Temporary moved

I will leave my home town for five days and will move to my girlfriend’s place to Vienna because I have to attend a Red Cross course in St. Poelten (guess what, 46 weeks to go!). Well, ain’t so bad, although I have to get up early, starting time is 8am but it takes me 45 minutes to go there. Nine hours of (hopefully) interesting and practical things and then back to Vienna. Maybe I will do some blog entries in the afternoons but I’m not sure about that, depends on my mood and my time management. Hopefully I can read some of my books (currently Youth and Schneeweiß und Russenrot). The only thing that actually annoys me is, that I can’t go on with my C# book. A month ago I would have said “no, don’t like that language” but it’s actually quite cool and has some advantages over Delphi (and of course, vice versa).

down is the new up

Radiohead

Have I ever said before that I like Radiohead? Well, I can’t remember but this is my weblog and so I can write about the stuff I want to write about. So read or go away (go to google, they doubled the number of indexed sites). I like the Radiohead’s songs, I like the art, I like their music clips, their lyrics, I simply love them. Maybe this is a bit pushy but go to your next cd-dealer and buy an album of Radiohead. Don’t look at the cover, just buy it, no matter which one it is. Go home, darken your room, light some candels, grab a good book (nothing too heavy, I would recommend Douglas Coupland’s “Eleanor Rigby” or “Girlfriend In A Coma”) and start listening. Enjoy it. Feel it. Let it touch your soul. Wait until it’s dark outside, grab your car keys, turn everything off and go to your car. Drive to the next city and visit the outskirts. Again, enjoy it, feel it, let it touch your soul. Then do whatever you want, I won’t control your life, eah!?

µMike

Just read on Telepolis that a philosopher named µMike was found on the territory of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). He lived there in a cave, with solar cells, marihuana, a bed and some other stuff. Read more on his website.

The last two days, I had some problems with my internet connection. The Austrian Telekom said that the reason for the breakdown was a software error (Siemens). But not only my adsl connection didn’t work, today I wanted to buy some stuff at a papershop - no cards accepted because the system was down. Thank you Telekom, had to walk to the next cash machine.

Firefox 1.0

So, I’m approximately #1735819 who reports about Firefox 1.0. But hey, it’s such a cool piece of software, it has the right to be mentioned in over a trillion weblogs ;-).

City stories

Had a nice weekend (again) in Vienna at my girlfriend’s place. On Saturday we visited the Schiele Landscapes exhibition in the Leopold Museum. Pretty interesting, some of his drawings are very, very basic but nevertheless they are worth thousands of Euros. Well, he has a famous name and I admit, most of his paintings are very special and I also like them, but not everything what comes from a good artist has to be good or special. Sunday I had to travel home again (47 weeks to go!), two girls sitting next to me in the subway. They were about 13 or maybe 14 years old and heavily made up. And they were sniffing gas. I don’t know why such young kids (they actually are kids) want to get high. It is a pity, seeing those teens throwing away a piece of their lifes. That reminds me of an American soldier in Fahrenheit 9/11 who says that with every person you kill, you loose a piece of yourself.
