WordPress and Yahoo – kick-ass?
You may have noticed that I’m currently working on a new theme for Stop Being Carbon (actually it is a modification of the great Hemingway theme).
Because I haven’t worked with WordPress templates for a long time, I wanted to lookup somethings in the WordPress codex. Bad idea:

An Ajax test comment.
Ajax is working, so have fun.
nice redesign, i like it, but it´s a little bit confusing. maybe it need some time to get used to it.
what the heck? do i have to use ‘ instead of ` ? hm, sorry. can u exlpain me what ajax does with the comments?
Christoph, how did you get your links on the main page to be clickable? I’m using Hemingway too and if I put a link in my post it won’t be clickable on the main page, only when you click for the full read is it clickable.

I can’t follow you. Do you mean the live comment feature?
@Bhoney You just have to use the_content() instead of the_excerpt() which will show the real content of the post, not only the excerpt (which doesn’t contain any links or other style infos).
Okay, now I understand. I don’t know if my little ajax script (which isn’t mine, actually) handles unicode correctly.

Hmm, mixed feelings about this theme.
Personally I think blogs should look unique and express the individuality of a person online, tweaking a generic template just doesn’t feel right.
I don´t think that this is such a problem. If the designer of the original template allows it, so why not? Not everybody has the skill to create a unique design, but everybody want´s a “professional” layout. There is a credit to the original designer and that means good publicity for him. For example everybody (WP community) knows Kubrik.
Of course blogs should look unique, especially when you call yourself somewhat of a “designer” or at least you think you have some knowledge of xhtml, css and php.
But, and I know I missed posting this, when I first saw the Hemingway theme I thought: Wow, that’s nice. And in my opinion, it really is. It’s completely different to Kubrick which is, beside of a great theme, used everywhere. And so it’s somehow used. I’m not talking about modified versions of Kubrick, K2 is really great to use if for your own modifications because it has a solid codebase and it would be pretty simpleminded to reinvent the wheel.
And sometimes it’s even nicer to add your own modifications to an already exisiting theme, what I did in the past and will continue in the future (after I’ve passed all my exams).
